Studies have shown that people are more likely to vote when encouraged by a nonprofit. Join other nonprofit leaders to learn about the nonprofit voter engagement model at this information session, the first of a two part series. At this session, you can:

  • Think about how encouraging your staff, volunteers and participants to vote can support your organization’s mission
  • Learn past efforts to increase voter turnout in Westchester
  • Find out who votes and who doesn't in Westchester
  • Participate in small group discussions to think about ways to incorporate voter registration, education and get-out-the-vote activities within your existing programs.
CEOs and Executive Directors are especially encouraged to attend.

Presenters: Louisa Hackett founded Community Votes, an initiative to increase voter registration and turnout rates in low income neighborhoods.  She worked closely with nonprofits at the Jacob Riis Houses in Queens to foster civic engagement in that community, with spectacular results that were profiled in the New York Times.  (Read the article here.)

Local information and history on voter engagement will be presented by Juanita Lewis, Community Voices Heard and Sarah Yergeau, Westchester Children's Association.
