Nonprofit Westchester Strong: The Mental Health Association of Westchester

For nearly 75 years, The Mental Health Association of Westchester (MHA) has helped individuals of all ages and backgrounds thrive through advocacy, community education and direct services. MHA's promise to the community remains steadfast throughout the Coronavirus Epidemic: "We can help." Here's how:

  • MHA's virtual doors remain open. For more than two months, MHA has delivered the majority of its services through innovative TeleHealth platforms. The agency's volunteer programs supporting children in foster care have gone virtual, too. Host Visitation volunteers coordinate and supervise video chats between children and their biological parents. Court Appointed Special Advocates maintain virtual contact with youth in foster care and continue to advocate for their needs, as well as work to ensure that parents and foster parents are supported, too.

  • A new Community Connection Support Line offers a listening ear. Recognizing that isolation and loneliness may arise due to social distancing and changes in our day-to-day lives, MHA created a free resource offering conversation and connection with credentialed mental health professionals. Staying socially connected despite distance is vital to emotional wellness. The support line is available during business hours at 914-219-4232.

  • A mobile food pantry based out of MHA's Sterling Community Center safely delivers food and essential items. Recognizing that limited access to transportation and/or technology creates a barrier to obtaining groceries, MHA staff quickly mobilized their food pantry. Last month, they delivered food and household essential items to more than 400 individuals throughout the region.

In recognition of Mental Health Month, The Mental Health Association of Westchester (MHA) invites you to #THRIVEwithMHA. This month, MHA is sharing an easy-to-remember acronym to help people thrive through all of life's moments.
