Nonprofit Westchester Strong: WJCS Center Lane

We are proud to feature WJCS Center Lane! WJCS Center Lane, where LGBTQ+ youth create community, connect with culture, and contribute to the world, has been focused on supporting youth uniquely impacted by isolation and anxiety.

“Center Lane is so important for LGBTQ+ youth, especially now, because we need our community around us and some of us are in spaces in which we aren’t supported or have even come out. Virtual Center Lane meetings and activities let us share our feelings, be able to hear the right pronouns, and to have a place to feel comfortable."
- Center Lane Participant

During COVID-19, Center Lane has been providing opportunities to be Virtually Center Lane 4 nights a week through a safe, confidential Zoom. LGBTQ+ youth throughout Westchester are welcome. Activities include Transparentcy, where parents/guardians meeting in one zoom "room" and youth in another, weekly for youth and bi-monthly for parents. Virtual social activities have included games, open 'mic' night, and a Pride Camp reunion, where past campers shared memories and built new ones. We have begun planning our newest endeavor - a TransParentcy+ group for People of Color. In addition, a new D&D campaign has started where youth can explore a world of their own creation.

Center Lane is Westchester's only program exclusively devoted to serving LGBTQ+ youth ages 13-21. Stay tuned for exciting new activities to celebrate Pride Month in June!
