Dear NPW Community:

NPW is a proud member of the steering committee of the Welcome Home Westchester Campaign organized by the Building and Realty Institute. The purpose of this campaign is to have new conversations about housing with the goal of dispelling myths and hysteria so we can build the housing that we need in Westchester.

For NPW, this issue is of critical significance as we seek to address the impact of systemic racism and redlining that has limited the possibility of home ownership and wealth building over decades for Black and Brown people. Additionally, we are motivated to advocate for the nonprofit workforce – the lifeblood of our communities – as they are priced out of the Westchester rental and ownership markets. The Westchester housing crisis needs to be addressed so our workforce (80% women and 55% people of color) can live and thrive where they work.

Below are four easy things you can do to support affordable housing in Westchester!

Best regards,
Jan

The Most Pro-Housing Agenda in Generations Is Being Debated in the State Budget

As part of her Executive Budget, Governor Kathy Hochul has proposed one of the most pro-housing and pro-construction agendas within generations. Named "The New York Housing Compact," it's an attempt for the state to build 800,000 new homes in 3 years, including an estimated 10,000 here in Westchester County. The State Assembly and State Senate are currently reviewing the proposal and entering a months-long negotiation to determine what – if any of it – will be passed in the state budget by early April.

Reminder: NPW Members - Please join us on March 3rd for a special Public Policy Meeting focused on the State Budget.
