Nonprofit Westchester Members and Community,
Friday evening, Governor Hochul signed S4817a/A1141a, which repeals the redundant new double filing requirement for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations!
Thank you Governor Hochul, thank you to the bill sponsors Senator Krueger and Assemblymember Paulin. And thank YOU: our members, coalition partners, and sector peers who took action to collectively win this campaign. Over 800 of you emailed the Governor, and 460 of you signed on in support of this legislation. A special thank you to Pro Bono Partnership for taking an active role in this effort.
After close to two years of organizing, charitable nonprofits registered in New York will not have to file their 990s and accompanying documents to the Department of State in addition to the Charities Bureau of the Attorney General’s Office. Nonprofits will continue to file annually with the Charities Bureau, which has enforcement authority over the sector.
