Resource on Federal Executive Orders Impacting Nonprofits

The National Council of Nonprofits has compiled a valuable resource detailing recent federal Executive Orders (EOs) signed by President Trump. These EOs cover critical issues, including diversity, equity, and inclusion programs; government grants and contracts; civic engagement; immigration policies; and specific nonprofit subsectors. Some EOs will take time to implement, while others are expected to face immediate legal challenges. To help nonprofits navigate these changes, the resource includes a comprehensive chart outlining EOs with potential direct or indirect effects on charitable organizations.

Staff and administrators at formerly protected areas should be aware of key rights and best practices that apply to all these spaces, as well as location-specific ones.

• Develop a written response policy & preparedness plans in advance.
• Designate an authorized person to review warrants & subpoenas.
• Understand the distinctions between public and private areas.
• Train non-authorized staff & volunteers on how to respond to ICE requests.
• Document all interactions with immigration enforcement.
• Connect with immigration response networks in your area.
