The application for the ELP Class of 2023 is now open!

NPW's Emerging Leaders Program is an 11-month professional development initiative designed to fortify the next generation of nonprofit professionals through learning that focuses on the social and systemic issues addressed by the nonprofit sector. Up to 30 participants engage in interactive trainings and have unique opportunities to network and share experiences with peers and leaders of NPW member organizations.

Nonprofit New York's 2022 Voter Engagement Toolkit provides a wealth of information to effectively educate and mobilize communities for civic engagement leading up to the election. The toolkit for nonprofits includes checklists, FAQs, and sample content for nonprofits to encourage voting in their communities and network, including information on Nonprofits and Ballot Measures. The information is nonpartisan, and the information provided details legal actions nonprofits can take in mobilizing voter turnout.

As a reminder, the General Election is Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Polls are open from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm. Early voting is from October 29 - November 6, 2022.


Field Hall Foundation has awarded $255,800 in new grants through its Fall 2022 grant cycle.  The funding will be used to improve the lives of vulnerable seniors and their caregivers in Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester Counties. Grant recipients included the following NPW Members:

Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center: $50,000 – To provide mobile mental healthcare to homebound seniors living in Greenburgh

Open Door Family Medical Center: $50,000 – To provide intensive case management and navigation to un- and under-insured, high-risk seniors in Putnam and Westchester Counties

HOPE Community Services: $45,000 – To provide mobile case management to low-income seniors in New Rochelle

United Way of Westchester and Putnam: $30,000 – To provide transportation for seniors in Putnam and Westchester Counties

DOROT: $15,000 – To provide services through their Westchester Response Team Program that will both help older adults continue to live independently and alleviate social isolation

Furniture Sharehouse: $10,800 – To provide furniture to low-income adults in need in Westchester County

Over 50 people were in attendance for our Budget Forum with County Executive George Latimer's key policy staff last Thursday. County Executive Latimer called in to address the participantsEnormous thanks to Emily Saltzman, Deputy Director of Operations, Karen Pasquale, Asst. Director of Operations, and Blanca Lopez, Deputy Commissioner of Planning for joining us in person to provide insight into the county's budget process and priorities. 

Several nonprofit leaders asked key questions and advocated for the issues affecting their nonprofits.


Thank you to Alison Paul of Alison Paul Grantwriting and Consulting Grant Prospect Research Workshop for leading a fantastic Grant Prospect Research Workshop last Friday. Over 50 participants joined us to learn new tricks and tools to find funders that are good fits for their organizations. Thank you also to Jaquetta Jenkins, Executive Director of First Steps to Heal Inc., for having the great idea for this important workshop!

Behind Closed Doors" Domestic Violence Awareness Virtual Program: October 26 at 7 PM

Learn about the alarming reality of domestic violence that is concealed behind closed doors where only the occupants know of its existence; where victims, perpetrators and even their children carefully curate a persona that is far different from the reality of their lives. Darlene Reda, Deputy Director for the Westchester County Office for Women, illuminates the complex dynamics underlying domestic violence and abuse, the prevalence of domestic violence in our Westchester communities and County initiative to address family violence, how to support someone who is experiencing domestic violence or abuse and local resources to turn to for help.

Exploring Peaker Power Plant Inequities and Solutions: November 10

Join Sustainable Westchester in discussing the environmental justice impacts of peaker power plants, and how communities can band together to eliminate their use. This webinar will introduce the Clean Energy Group’s Peaker Plant Mapping Tool and provide an overview of how it can be used to explore the economic and racial disparities of peaker plants.

Please give your employees an hour of work-time, THIS WEEK, to pursue loan forgiveness on their own. Send them to and they’ll take it from there. This waiver makes it easier for public service employees to receive credit for more payments. However, this waiver currently expires on October 31, 2022. Apply by Oct. 31

Take the 2022 RACE To LEAD survey to contribute to new understandings of how these changes are impacting all nonprofit workers, leaders and organizations. The survey will explore new topics – like the experiences of frontline workers and changing expectations of nonprofit workplaces – while continuing to gather important information on the intersection of race, leadership and nonprofit culture.

Child Care Council of Westchester: Westchester Works Child Care Scholarship Program

This new scholarship has much higher income eligibility levels, and may be available to your family even if you’ve never been included before. For example, a family of two: once “over-income” for child care financial assistance at $54,930, you can now have a gross income of up to $73,240 and be eligible for the Westchester Works Child Care Scholarship Program.
