Response to Governor Hochul's State of the State Address

Governor Kathy Hochul delivered her State of the State Address on January 5th where she outlined the nine sections of her 2022 Agenda – A New Era for New York. At the end of this alert, you will find the nine sections of the agenda and some, but certainly not all, of the areas of particular interest to the nonprofit sector.
The Governor’s plan details initiatives that offer significant promise for the nonprofit sector, the nonprofit workforce and people and communities served by our agencies. NPW hopes this is truly a New Era for New York. We hope 2022 will be a time where the nonprofit sector is more fully recognized as an economic engine worthy of funding for increased operational expenses incurred during the pandemic, and a time where we can work together to advance equitable contracting, fair wages and relatedly, racial and gender equity. The $500 million in funding for human services cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) in the new budget is tremendously encouraging.
NPW will continue to work with our member organizations and partners in the nonprofit sector to advocate with Governor Hochul and the NY State Legislature for budgetary and legislative issues of importance to the nonprofit sector. We will inform you of these actions in more detail moving forward. Jan Fisher, Executive Director
