NPW

Now is the Time to Act

NPW is proud to be THE advocacy voice of Westchester’s nonprofit sector. Our executive director, Jan Fisher, has been in direct conversations with Westchester’s Congressional members, and we are pleased to share their statements below.

"We are committed to serving the critical and essential work of the nonprofit sector. Any Community Based Organization in the 16th Congressional District can text me at (202) 631-3930, or call our district office at (914) 323-5550 if you have any questions or concerns about the Federal funding pause issue. I am working with Democratic leadership to defend the legal financial commitments made by the Federal government from unwarranted certainty.”
- Congressman George Latimer, 16th District of New York

"As we move forward ensuring our non-profit organizations that provide critical services to the residents of Westchester County and the 17th District receive the funding the have been authorized to receive is a top priority for me. We will continue to work tirelessly to address any challenges that arise from directives from the White House and/or departments and agencies. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to my district office at (845) 201-2060 or RepMikeLawler@mail.house.gov."
- Congressman Michael Lawler, 17th District of New York

We know the “Federal funding freeze” and other uncertainties have been using up valuable time. But NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT TO DEFEND THE NONPROFIT SECTOR AND THE PEOPLE THAT SEEK OUR SERVICES.

  • Help Defend the Nonprofit Sector: Sign onto this open letter to members of Congress, which highlights nonprofits’ role as employers, taxpayers, partners with government, and nonpartisan community supporters.

  • Submit Your Story or Concern to the National Council of Nonprofits who is Effectively Advocating on Behalf of Nonprofits Nationwide: Use this form to let our national partner know how the executive orders and/or funding freeze is affecting your organization. Be as specific as possible about jobs and programs threatened, and about cash flow challenges.

  • Bookmark this Executive Order Analysis working document by National Council of Nonprofits. They are continually updated with legal action and links tracking the Executive Orders that impact nonprofits.

  • Inform Your Private Funders: Let your grantors know if your federal funds are at risk or disrupted. Private philanthropy can never replace the economies of scale in terms of government funding, but it's important for funders to know what their grantees are experiencing.
