NPW Public Policy and Westchester County Budget

Advocacy

On Friday, November 12th, the New York State legislature delivered S4817A/A1141A to Governor Hochul! The Governor will now have until Friday, November 12th  to act on the bill. She can sign it, veto it, or if she does not act on it, the bill will become law.

S4817A/A1141A repeals the new double filing requirement for nonprofits to file their 990s with the Department of State (DOS) in addition to the Charities Bureau of the Attorney General’s Office. We know that many nonprofits are preparing their state tax filings for November 15th. Currently, the proposed DOS regulations on the new double filing requirement would require nonprofits to file their 990s with the DOS no later than when they file with the AG Charities Bureau. For many organizations, this filing will take place on November 15th. We need your immediate support urging Governor Hochul to swiftly sign the bill that is now before, to prevent this new and costly administrative burden on the sector.

Affordable Housing

A few weeks ago, the Welcome Home Westchester Campaign released its first report, "The Economic Benefits of Building the Housing We Need."

Tim Foley, CEO of The Building & Realty Institute and one of the contributing authors to the paper, will guide you step by step through some of the report's most important findings, and talk about what local cities, states, and villages should consider in order to start to fill the gap of 11,703 units of housing that the Westchester County Housing Need Assessment says that we need in order to meet present-day demand and continue to make Westchester a welcoming region for seniors, millennials, young families, essential workers, and all who want to live, work, and contribute to our community.
