YWCA Racial Equity Workshop Series - STARTS TODAY
The YWCA of White Plains & Central Westchester is pleased to introduce the Center for Racial Equity, a dedicated space for advancing racial equity in Westchester County by providing the vision, the place, and the community to sustain anti-racist work. Designed to be taken as a three-part series with participants engaging in each program in succession, or as standalone workshops, the Racial Equity 100 Series was developed with original content for an interactive learning experience. Each workshop is two hours.
Racial Equity 101 lays the foundation for anti-racist behavior and practice in our personal and professional lives. Date: March 2, 2021, 6-8pm, Cost: Inaugural Special $25
Racial Equity 102 provides participants with a historical foundation of racism displayed through the values, spiritual beliefs, and policies of individuals that have held decision-making power. Date: March 15, 2021, 6-8pm, Cost: Inaugural Special $25
Racial Equity 103 closes out the three-part racial justice program by guiding participants through an experience that highlights decision-making and a commitment to anti-racism within their homes, communities, and/or workplaces. Date: March 30, 2021, 6-8pm, Cost: Inaugural Special $25

Groundwork Hudson Valley: Racial Equity and the Environment
Even before a child is born in the US, their race plays a huge part in how they'll experience heat and pollution. It starts with America's history of racist housing policies that segregated families of color into undesirable neighborhoods – and we can actually see the effects of those policies today. And as the climate warms, it's black families who are most likely to be stuck in extremely hot areas.
Watch: How heat is radically altering Americans' lives before they're even born – 6 minute video
In the summer of 2020, NPW member Groundwork Hudson Valley partnered with Vivek Shandas, the professor featured throughout the video above, to employ Yonkers youth to collect heat data that is informing a broader Climate Safe Neighborhoods Partnership in Yonkers. To learn more about the partnership, visit Climate Safe Neighborhoods - Groundwork Hudson Valley (groundworkhv.org).
