EVENT RECAPS

We were thrilled to host an engaging and impactful event, Nonprofit Board Power, on November 7th. This important conversation reframed board practices and perspectives, highlighting the pivotal role board members play in driving nonprofit success and advocating for systemic change.

Over 80 attendees heard from an incredible lineup of thought leaders:

  • Keynote speaker and moderator Tiffany S.W. Hamilton, CEO of YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester
  • Maria Dautruche, CAP®, Founder of the dopwell group LLC
  • Freddimir García, DEI Officer at Hudson Gateway Association of REALTORS, Inc., and Co-Founder & Director of The Board Institute
  • Dr. Jeremy Kohomban, Ph.D, President & CEO of The Children’s Village
  • Thomas Scaglione, Vice President of Government Affairs at Westchester Medical Center Health Network
  • Sonya Shields, Social Impact Strategist, DEI Advocate/Educator, and Nonprofit Executive Leadership Consultant

Our speakers explored how nonprofit professionals and board members can work collaboratively with funders to bridge funding gaps, enhance resource development, and strengthen sector health. They addressed the reality that 22% of the nonprofit workforce, predominantly women (80%) and people of color (50%), faces financial insecurity. This conversation underscored the challenges posed by inadequate funding for mandated and essential services.

A huge thank you to our sponsors: Buzz Creators, Heller Fundraising Group, Insperity, Morgan Stanley, Valley Bank, and Westchester Medical Center Health Network for supporting this crucial dialogue.

Together, we are paving the way for more equitable and effective nonprofit leadership.

The Emerging Leaders Class had an inspirational last session of the year on Thursday, November 7, when they visited the beautiful Children's Village campus. Thank you to Chief Program Officer David Collins, Senior Vice President for Community-Based Services Warren Kent, and Division Director Vincent Madera for leading such an eye-opening and honest discussion.

The class even got a quick tour of the amazing campus including a stop into the vibrant Keith Haring Medical Clinic. The group left the campus with a enhanced understanding of what is really required to help children and families today, and how the Children's Village has emerged as a national model for community-embedded family support.

Afterward, ELPers and members of the CV staff joined together for a delicious and fun meal at Lombardo's. It was wonderful to connect with the incredible members of the CV team.
