NPW is committed to addressing decades-long challenges with state funding and has advocated successfully with NY State to get important legislation passed by the NY State Senate Assembly. Join us to learn more about as we address the following data:

  • 65% of member organizations of New York Council of Nonprofits surveyed receive New York State funding
  • 90% said NYS funding doesn't cover the cost of delivering the service or program expected by the state (up from 80% in 2023)
  • 45% said they have experienced a delay in receiving funding from NYS (down from 62% in 2023 - but still a sizeable percentage)
  • 19% said they have needed a line of credit due to a delay in receiving state funding (down from 25% in 2023 - but still a concerning percentage)

NYCON STATE OF THE SECTOR 2024

Nonprofit organizations are everywhere in New York State, helping millions of people and businesses every day. Nonprofits add more than $358 billion to the New York State economy - hospitals, nursing homes, libraries, human services agencies, arts & culture are the backbone of communities across New York.

The health of the nonprofit sector is critical for the health of the New York State economy and communities.

The Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center (HHREC) of White Plains, NY has announced that David Imamura has joined the HHREC Advisory Board. Imamura was elected to the Westchester County Board of Legislators in a special election on February 27, 2023 to represent District 12, comprised of Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Edgemont, Hartsdale, Hastings-on-Hudson, and Irvington. He was re-elected that November to a full two-year term that began in January ’24. He is the first Asian-American to serve on the Board of Legislators. Read More.

The Mental Health Association of Westchester and The Mental Health Association of Rockland Merge and Rebrand as Greater Mental Health of New York

The Mental Health Association of Westchester and The Mental Health Association of Rockland announced the completion of their merger and the new name of their combined organization: Greater Mental Health of New York, Inc. The merger increases the size and scope of integrated, person-centered services delivered by the community-based non-profit and strengthens the new entity’s ability to reduce barriers to quality mental health care in the Lower Hudson Valley region. This program supports new and innovative strategies for preventing and reducing crime, improving community safety, and strengthening criminal justice system outcomes. Webinar: July 2

$31.4 Million in Funding Available for Priority Mental and Behavioral Health Needs

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), announced notices of funding opportunities aimed at improving behavioral health for racial and ethnic minorities, and other underserved populations, providing training and technical assistance to programs serving these populations, and integrating primary and behavioral health care. The funding totals $31.4 million and supports the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to address the mental health and overdose crises, two key pillars of the President’s Unity Agenda for the nation, as well as continuing efforts to advance heath equity and address the consistent and disproportionate impact of HIV on racial and ethnic minorities.
