Governor’s Business Navigator Toolkit Initiative

The Child Care Council of Westchester (the Council) is part of an effort to better understand employer benefits in New York. Employer-sponsored child care benefits are an investment in the workforce that can yield significant returns - reducing absenteeism and turnover, boosting productivity, attracting talent, and enhancing the overall workplace culture. Please take 8 to 10 minutes to complete this short survey. All responses will be reported only for aggregate results statewide and by community. Business Navigator PDF. ALICE: Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, earning above the Federal Poverty Level but less than what’s needed to survive in the current economy. ALICE workers include childcare providers, home health aides and cashiers — those working low-wage jobs, with little or no savings and one emergency from poverty.

Though wages for the lowest paid jobs have risen across the country at the fastest rate in four decades, the number of households struggling to get by in Westchester grew by approximately 7,500. As a result, 36% of households in Westchester County were living paycheck to paycheck, according to a new update from United Way of Westchester and Putnam and its research partner United For ALICE. To read the update and access interactive dashboards that provide data on financial hardship at the state, county and local levels, visit UnitedForALICE.org/New-York.
