Plan voter engagement efforts that will work for your organization in this follow up to “Making Democracy Work: Engaging Nonprofit Voters”.

This hands on session will include tools, templates and resources to get your organization started with engaging voters for the 2016 national and 2017 local elections.

Review lessons learned from local and national efforts and develop strategies to engage your fellow staff, including overcoming real or perceived barriers to participation.

You will also learn the basics of nonpartisan voter registration and New York State voter registration requirements and deadlines.

Presenters: Louisa Hackett founded Community Votes, an initiative to increase voter registration and turnout rates in low income neighborhoods.  She worked closely with nonprofits at the Jacob Riis Houses in Queens to foster civic engagement in that community, with spectacular results that were profiled in the New York Times.  (Read the article here.)
