Mission Statement
The Center for Independent Productions, Inc. (CIP), established in 1980 as a 501(c)(3) organization, dedicates itself to the cultivation and promotion of both film and theater arts for the enrichment of our community. Our mission at CIP is to produce, direct, distribute, and raise funds for films and theatrical productions that delve into a broad range of social, educational, and historical subjects.
Over the years, CIP has proudly served as a non-profit sponsor for numerous grants, ranging from the National Endowment for the Humanities to the Ford Foundation, along with various smaller family foundations. This support has enabled us to forge a path in both cinematic and theatrical realms, ensuring a diverse and rich cultural tapestry.
Integral to our mission is our official theater wing, Rivertowns Playhouse (formerly known as Irvington Shakespeare Company). Drawing inspiration from the Small Scale Agriculture Movement, which advocates for local farms and farmer's markets as sustainable alternatives to large-scale agricultural corporations, Rivertowns Playhouse similarly champions a grassroots approach to theater in America. We envision a future where professional, high-quality performing arts not only originate from our local Rivertowns but are also created by and for the benefit of our community members.
At CIP, we are committed to producing professional theater that entertains, enlightens, and inspires audiences. We aim to showcase the rich local talent in Westchester, the greater Hudson Valley, and throughout New York State. Our approach to inclusivity is holistic: we focus on creative diversity, affordability, and physical accessibility. We produce plays through an intersectional lens, ensuring they are financially accessible and conveniently located near public transportation for all to enjoy.
Our commitment extends to our film productions, where we seek to tell compelling stories that resonate with diverse audiences. We aim to harness the power of cinema to foster understanding, spark dialogue, and contribute positively to society. Whether on stage or screen, our goal is to create art that is both reflective of and beneficial to our community.
