Nonprofit Westchester and The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester Secure Funding to Develop The Center for Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion of Westchester

White Plains, NY, March 5, 2020

The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester (YWCA) and Nonprofit Westchester (NPW) have secured funding from Westchester County to plan for the establishment of The Center for Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion of Westchester.

The center will be a space for cutting-edge professional development, coaching, consultation, programming and evaluation that furthers social justice goals; a convener of stakeholders from nonprofit, government, business, healthcare and education that are committed to equity, inclusion and diversity; and an incubator to develop new initiatives designed to promote racial equity on the personal, institutional and systemic levels.

“Achieving equity and inclusion in all sectors of society, including the workplace, involves time, commitment, organizational and personal self-examination and a willingness to build new systems that support people and populations to realize their full potential. Embracing diversity and providing real opportunities for all voices to be heard will benefit all members of our community,” stated Maria Imperial, CEO of The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester and Board Member of Nonprofit Westchester.

“Research clearly demonstrates significant, life-limiting racial disparities in all sectors of society - the workforce, education, housing, healthcare and the justice system. We appreciate the commitment of the Westchester County Board of Legislators and County Executive George Latimer in furthering the plan for the Center”, stated Jan Fisher, Executive Director of Nonprofit Westchester. “These government leaders recognize the vital contribution of the nonprofit sector in advancing solutions to address the impact of historical racism, and we are grateful for their partnership.”
