The CDPAP is still under attack! CALL TO ACTION BELOWThe Governor has made it clear her intention to cut $1.2 billion from the consumer-directed program earlier this year and she is still determined to do so. CDPAP allows People with Disabilities to hire their own home care worker and not rely solely on a home care agency. She is intentionally overlooking the real reason for this cost – the profiteering private insurance companies who will continue to make profits despite these cuts that will drive our consumers especially the Intellectually Disabled and Developmentally Disabled, into institutions. The long-term consequences benefit nursing homes and the managed care insurance companies that profit from the home care system. In NYS we have an unnecessarily complex home care system, and it doesn’t need to be that way. Please call the Governor, encourage family and friends to do so, and tell her these cuts jeopardize the lives of seniors and people with disabilities. Governor Hochul - 518-474-8390 My name is _____ and I am calling about home care. I understand that the Governor continues to propose cuts to the popular consumer directed home care program.. These proposals threaten to undercut hard-fought gains achieved over the last two years for the home care sector. They also effectively give insurance companies license to hold onto funds that rightfully belong to underpaid and critical home care workers. The Governor cannot look for savings by cutting essential home care and then let insurance companies off the hook for taking billions of dollars meant for home care. If the Governor is looking for savings, she must address profiteering of insurance companies |
