Concerts in Motion Expands to Westchester: Uplifting Communities and Combating Social Isolation Through MusicOctober 17, 2024 | Press ReleaseSince 2009, Concerts in Motion has brought music, conversation, and kindness to those who need it most -- building community and alleviating the challenges of social isolation. Our socially-engaging, culturally-responsive music programming reaches older adults, veterans, those who are homebound or receiving palliative care, Holocaust Survivors, caregivers, and others who are vulnerable to isolation. After serving all five boroughs of New York City for 15 years, Concerts in Motion (CiM) is thrilled to announce that we are coming to Westchester! Thanks to a generous grant from the Phelps Community Health Foundation, Concerts in Motion will bring its signature concerts to Westchester County! Concerts in Motion will do this by connecting existing local resources for music programming in Mount Kisco, New Rochelle, Yonkers, and White Plains with those in these communities who experience social isolation. Concerts in Motion alleviates social isolation and loneliness by acting as a bridge that connects local communities from within, by facilitating uplifting concerts that transform lives. We serve under-resourced communities as a priority. The impact of our work is increased community cohesion and wellbeing, an increase in intergenerational connectedness, and relief from the harmful health effects of social isolation. Concerts in Motion contributes to the local economies by hiring Westchester-based professional musicians who play a range of genres most beloved by those residents we will reach, as well as by providing important performance and training opportunities to student volunteers (aged 6-18) who are passionate about sharing their music with individuals who can benefit most. We are looking forward to working with Non Profit Westchester Community Partners in any way where we can be most helpful. We are grateful to Seth Diamond, CEO of WJCS, and Z. Baird (Crestwood Library Branch Administrator) and Jesse Montero (Yonkers Public Library Director) at the Yonkers Public Library for supporting our application with the Phelps Community Health Foundation. We welcome meeting more of you and discussing collaboration! Learn More » |
