We know, and the data shows, that people with disabilities are far less likely to be employed than workers without disabilities. And, depending on a person’s type of disability, especially people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, the unemployment rate can be as high as 80%.
We also know that diverse workforces with a multitude of perspectives and experiences support improved cultures and productivity.
Job fairs and other opportunities to support employment of people with disabilities are important but do not offer long-term, sustainable solutions to the problem of the under and unemployment of people with disabilities. The NPW Disabilities Roundtable Advisory Committee has learned of an incredible resource through Cornell University that will support goals of inclusion of people with disabilities in the workforce.
At the December 9th meeting, we will discuss this resource and an in-person event with a speaker from the Yang-Tan Institute (YTI) and the Northeast ADA Center, to be held on March 10th, designed to dispel myths and share vital information to advance inclusion goals.
