Advocacy Alert: Please Take Action on Child Care Today

Child Care is a priority advocacy area for Nonprofit Westchester. Our economy cannot re-emerge without child care. Affordable, high quality childcare promotes racial and gender equity in the workplace and in our society, and fosters productivity and the bottom line of business.

The Child Care Council of Westchester thanks Governor Cuomo and his team for all they have done to support child care. Federal CARES funding was used to provide child care scholarships for essential workers, and PPE and materials for programs as well as operating support primarily targeting child care businesses that did close, so they could reopen.

We call on the Governor to use the balance of CARES for direct operating support to child care businesses. Polling by the Raising NY Coalition found that most of the child care programs in the state that remained open were in communities with lower income workers; these programs and communities need particular assistance and they need it now. That should be the priority for the balance of CARES funding, nearly $70 million.

Join the Child Care Council of Westchester in urging the Governor to deploy the balance of CARES to keep the child care system open for working parents and their children.
