Mission Statement
The mission of Ability Beyond is to discover, build, and celebrate the ability in all people. Ability Beyond has pioneered innovative and person-centered care for people with disabilities since 1953. Our network of programs, care and services support individuals from ages 16 to 90+ with autism, physical and developmental disabilities, acquired brain injury, mental health and substance use disorders, and with age-related illnesses and loss of mobility that people in our residential programs experience throughout their lives.
Ability Beyond empowers people with disabilities to build lives beyond society’s expectations of what they can achieve. Our programs connect them with gainful employment at a rate that exceeds the national average. Professional staff and innovative programs promote social inclusion through independence that would otherwise fall out of reach; we ensure their wellness at home, in the workplace, and in the community. We also continue to provide support to their families over the course of a lifetime.
Over the span of 70 years, Ability Beyond has grown from a volunteer-based organization that served local children to a regional provider of acclaimed programs that support the lives of thousands of people annually in Connecticut and New York, with headquarters in Bethel and Chappaqua. Our agency transforms lives and gives the people we serve opportunities and independence through the following:
Residential Services— including group homes, supported independent living, senior support services , mental health/behavioral and substance abuse services
Career Development and Employment Training
Group and Individualized Day Programming—including virtual programing
Clinical Supports & Therapies
Transition Services—to build social and employment skills as well as awareness of personal goals and interests
Professional Supports—supplemental services for a healthy, happy, productive life
To extend our mission as part of our nonprofit, Ability Beyond formed a consulting arm, Disability Solutions which provides corporate training and services to companies across the country to help them create inclusive workplaces and cultures, and help them meet their DEIB and disability hiring goals.
